The President called the meeting to order.
The audience joined in singing the Hymn: "Joy to the World!"
Perry Crouch, former state executive secretary of North Carolina, led in the
opening prayer.
Minutes of the 3oard for November 7, 1978 were approved.
The President recognized the Executive Director,

Dr. Cauthen stated that it was with pleasure that he recognized Rogers M. Smith,
administrative associate to the Executive Director. He reviewed the close
association that Dr. Smith had had with Southern Baptist life over a period of
years and paid special commendation to him for his 25 years of service as a
mamber of the Foreign Mission Board staff. He called Dr. Smith to the platform
and presented a 25-year service pin.
In connection with the recognition of Dr. Smith's service on the Board, Dr.
Cauthen recognized Mr. John D. Wallace, Morristown, Tennessee. Some years
back, Mr. Wallace had become acquainted with a friend of Dr. Smith's a noted
artist, Wim L. Van Dijk. Mr. Wallace had made a very' gracious and generous
suggestion that he would like to present to the Board a portrait of Dr. Smith,
to be painted by Mr. Wim Van Dijk.
Mrs. Smith, Dr. Smith, and Mr. Wallace came to the platform and Mrs. Smith un¬
veiled the portrait. Dr. J. R. White, 3oard member from Alabama, led in a
special prayer.
