The Foreign Mission Board met in regular monthly session on Tuesday, December
11, 1979, 2:00 p.m., in the Baker James Cauthen Chapel. John W. Patterson,
president of the 3oard, presided.

The President called the meeting to order.
A brief song service of Christmas carols preceded the meeting, led by Sidney
C. Reber.
William Clinton, 3oard member from Georgia, read a passage of Scripture and
led in the Opening Prayer.
Guests were recognized and welcomed., including J. D. Ratliff, former Board
member from New Mexico; E. L. Hill, former member of the staff; Allen Gaines
as newly elected President of the Virginia Baptist General Association; and
Alastair Walker, president of the state convention of South Carolina.
The President stated that the dace of December 11 was a "Very Special Day",
including the Appointment Service at the Hampton Roads Coliseum that evening.
Everyone was keenly aware of the significance of this, the last 3oard meeting
in 1979 and the month in which Dr. Baker james Cauthen would retire as Executive
Director of the 3oard.
Minutes of the 3oard for November 6, 1979 were approved.
The President recognized the Executive Director, Baker J. Cauthen.

The time has come for my final report to the Foreign Mission Board of the
Southern Baptist Convention as the Executive Director.
