ORIENTATION PRESENTATION for NEW BOARD MEMBERS
MONDAY, August 9, 1976
Members of the Board, elected to membership in 1974 - June 1976 were invited to attend
an orientation program for newly elected members.
On Monday, August 9, 1976, newly elected members who were able to attend, members of the
special committee on "Orientation of New Board Members," and members of the Board's
administrative staff, met in Conference Room A for brief discussions dealing with the
organizational structure of the Board and specific responsibilities of Board members, as
related to individual committees charged with the responsibilities of area administra¬
tion, as well as those serving on the Administrative Committee , charged with responsi¬
bilities for all financial matters of the Board.
The entire group adjourned at 12:30 noon for lunch in Room C.
The group adjourned at 1:30 p.m. and they were extended an invitation to attend the
meeting of the Administrative Committee of the Board, scheduled to meet at 7:30 p.m.,
August 9, at the Board headquarters.

The Foreign Mission Board met in regular monthly session Tuesday, August 10, 1976,
3:00 p.m. in the Baker James Caut’nen Chapel. The President, James G. Harris, presided.

The President called the meeting to order.
The audience joined in singing the Hymn: "0 Worship the King," led by William O'Brien,
secretary for Denominational Coordination, elected to the staff as of August 1, 1976.
J. W. Pace, Board member from Kansas, read a passage of Scripture and led in the Opening
Prayer.
Special prayer was offered for Dr. Cauthen, giving thanksgiving for his recovery from
recent surgery; Mrs. Collette, Board member from North Carolina, recovering satisfactorily
from recent surgery; for the presence of Mrs. W. Jack Smith, newly-elected Board member
from Georgia, who lost iier husband recently; John Patterson, local Board member, hospi¬
talized for recent surgery; the current situation of deep concern in Lebanon; and other
special needs.
A cordial welcome was extended to newly-elected Board members and deep appreciation was
expressed for the presence of all who were elected in June 1976, with the exception of
Joe McKeever, a member from Mississippi, and regret was expressed that he could not be
present for the meeting.
Newly-elected members of the Foreign Mission Board staff were welcomed: William O'Brien,
secretary for Denominational Coordination; William W. Marshall, secretary for Furlough
Ministries; and Harold Hurst, on a temporary interim assignment to assist the Medical
Consultant, Franklin T. Fowler.
