REPORT OF THE EXECUTIVE SECRETARY
We have now received from the recent Lottie Moon Christmas Offering a total of
$10,869,896.79. Books will remain open on the Offering until May 1st and it is
anticipated that the full amount will be much in excess of the total of $10,949,857
received a year ago.
This money will mean resources for work being done throughout the world by mission¬
aries in evangelism and church development, Christian education, medical work,
literature production and theological seminaries. The final total of the Offering
will be announced at the meeting of the Board in May.
Reports from Brazil indicate that the Nationwide Evangelistic Crusade is bringing
remarkable blessing. We are grateful to the Brotherhood Commission of the
Southern Baptist Convention for organizing "Operating Prayerlift" which has done
much to reinforce this effort for Christ.
The Evangelistic Crusade in Thailand and Singapore is due to begin in the next few
days. Mr. Underwood, Dr. Crawley, and I will be going to participate in that signif¬
icant effort. Dr. Crawley and I hope also to visit Vietnam and Indonesia. We shall
be back prior to the meeting of the Board in May.
We are now looking forward to the meeting of the Southern Baptist Convention in
Dallas. The Foreign Mission program is scheduled for Thursday evening, June 3rd.
We are looking forward to having Dr. Rubens Lopes, President of the Brazil Baptist
Convention, to bring an address on that occasion, sharing his deep convictions
concerning "A Spiritual Revolution." Dr. Rubens Lopes brought the challenge to the
Brazil Convention out of which the Nationwide Evangelistic Crusade emerged.
We are also looking forward to having Rev. Joseph B. Underwood, the Consultant in
Evangelism and Church Development, speak on that occasion inasmuch as he has now
shared in special efforts on many mission fields throughout the world.
We trust that we may have great power on that occasion and that there will be much
prayer undergirding all that is done.
We look forward to the semi-annual meeting of the Board in May. One of the features
of the meeting will be a message by the Board's President, Dr. Homer Lindsay at the
luncheon on Wednesday sharing his experiences and impressions on his recent journey
to the mission fields in Latin America. We are expecting to have a large number of
missionaries available for appointment at that time.
