April 7, 1959.
The devotional period was led by Dr. James M. Middleton of Louisiana.
Dr. Cauthen gave the following report:
REPORT OF EXECUTIVE SECRETARY
We have gathered for a highly important meeting of the Foreign Mission Board.
The significance of this occasion is indicated by the large number of leaders
in Baptist life who in addition to our Board members have turned aside from
their own responsibilities to be with us. We are honored by the presence of
executives and representatives of the Southern Baptist Convention, its agencies
and institutions. We are grateful for the presence of state convention execu¬
tive secretaries as well as leaders of Woman's Missionary Union, both Southwide
and from the states. We are also honored by the presence of leaders of the
Baptist World Alliance and executives of several other Baptist Foreign Mission
Boards. Among them we are particularly honored by the presence of Dr. Edward
B. Willingham, the son of Dr. R. J. Willingham, who was one of the most beloved
executive secretaries ever to serve this Board.
