China— The report of the Committee on China was read
by Brother Johnson and adopted as follows:
WE RECOMMEND:
1. That special medical appropriation of $75
per month for five mqnths be made to J.R. Saunders.
2. That $1,000 (Mex.) be added to the appro¬
priation of $5,000 (gold) to be used toward the erection
of the Harris House in Kaifeng, • the original amount not
being sufficient to complete the building.
3. That the Board agree to the erection of res¬
idences on land in Tsingtao leased from the Japanese Govern¬
ment on ten-year leases, with the understanding that these
leases can be renewed and that details of the transaction
satisfactory to the Executive Committee of the North China
Mission can be made.
4. That $250 be appropriated to be used for
repairs on the Pool In Woman*s School, Canton, and $1,500
be appropriated for refurnishing the old dormitory of the
same school.
5. That $5,000 (Mex.) be appropriated for the
purchase of two houses Nos. 7 and 17, shown on the plan of
Yates Academy, Soochow, and Taels 2,923 (approximately $4,600)
he appropriated for completing the payment of the Seaman
Loan at Soochow.
6. That a special appropriation of $100 per
month be made toward the work being done for the Japanese
in Shanghai by Misses Smith and Bellinger, pending the
settlement of the question of their appointment.
