COMMITTEE ON
LATIN Dr. Matthews read the report of the Latin America Committee which was
AFRICA adopted as follows:
1. That we approve the action of the North Brazil Mission in with¬
holding the fluids for current support and withdrawing missionary teaching
assistance from the Seminary in Recife until a new Bases of Co-operation
has been negotiated with the National Baptist Convention of Brazil.
2. We approve the plan submitted by the Executive Secretary to the
North and South Brazil Missions and the National Baptist Convention for
the settlement of pending difficulties and the adoption of a new Bases of
Co-operation. The plan is as follows:
Each Mission will select seven missionaries and the
Board will appoint one, making a committee of fifteen
representing the Foreign Mission Board. The President
of the National Baptist Convention through the Execu¬
tive Committee of the Convention will select seven
members from the North and seven from the South, who
together with himself, shall constitute the Brazilian
committee. This committee shall work out a settlement
of all matters in dispute and submit their recommenda¬
tions to a called session of the National Convention
and to the Foreign Mission Board for ratification.
3. We recommend that the South Brazil Mission take steps at once to
establish a Woman's Missionary Training School separate and apart from the
newly created state officialized Baptist Girls' College in Rio. We
recommend that the 'Woman's Missionary Union of Brazil proceed as early
as practicable to erect on the land owned by the Board in the rear of the
present Girls' School opening on the side street, a new building adequate
for the Woman’s Missionary Training School for South Brazil.
