The Foreign Mission Board held its Conventionwide-Semiannual meeting, April 10-12,
1972, in Jackson, Mississippi, with the Board's President, Drew J. Gunnells, Jr.,
presiding.

(NOTE: Shortly, upon his arrival in Jackson, John W. Langdale received word about the
death of his father, which necessitated his immediate departure.)

on furlough and emeritus); Dr. and Mrs. Larry Rohrman, pastor, First Baptist Church,
Jackson; Miss Marjean Patterson, executive secretary, Mississippi WMU; and wives and/or
husbands of Board members and the Board's staff.

The FULL BOARD and members of its staff, including their wives and/or husbands, were
the guests of Mississippi Baptists, upon invitation of Dr. W. Douglas Hudgins, execu¬
tive secretary, and Dr. John L. Taylor, pastor, First Baptist Church, McComb, Missi¬
ssippi, both of whom were members of the Foreign Mission Board, for a testimonial
dinner at 6:30 p.m., in the First Baptist Church.
Other invited guests included a number of friends and leaders from the state, making a
total of approximately 450 in attendance.
A most delightful period of fellowship was enjoyed and introductions were made along
with recognitions of leaders in strategic positions - both within the state of Missi¬
ssippi, and on behalf of the Foreign Mission Board.
Dr. Larry Rohrman, pastor of the First Baptist Church, Jackson, brought the Invocation.
Dr. John L. Taylor recognized the guests and Dr. W. D. Hudgins presented the Foreign
Mission Board staff. Special music was rendered by Mrs. Dawn Gandy, a soprano soloist,
accompanied by Mrs. Josephine Bryan. Dr. David R. Grant introduced the Guest Speaker,
Dr. Carl Bates, who paid a most meaningful tribute to the Foreign Mission Board staff.
Rev. Drew Gunnells, Jr. pronounced the Benediction.
Following the dinner, the "Special Committee on Foreign Missions Night, SBC,
