The following statistics present an interesting view of the condition of that portion of Liberia to which they relate, and of the missionary work in that field: NEW VIRGINIA, WEST AFRICA, Oct. 4th, 1856. REV. JAMES B. TAYLOR Very Dear Bro. — I herewith transmit to you the statistics of the churches, the schools, and ministers, of every denomination upon the St. Paul’s River — beginning at Millsburg. Baptist Church — Thirty-nine members. R. White, pastor, ordained; Adam Lockard, Fountain Richardson and James Bullock, licentiates. Schools — Twenty-two scholars; teacher, W. J. Day, now absent. M. E. Church, Millsburg — Fifty members, Philip Groce, pastor, not ordained; Nacy Ross, Cato Outland, and Alexander Smart, licentiates. School — Thirty scholars; Mrs. Ann Wilkins, teacher. Presbyterian church, opposite — Thirteen members. FI. W. Harrison, pastor, not ordained. School — Ten scholars; teacher, J. H. Malving. Louisiana Baptist church — Twenty-four members. Preacher, R. White, of Millsburg. School — Twenty-two scholars; teacher, Peter M. Page. Clay Ashland Baptist church — Fifty-six members. School — Thirty scholars; teacher, Thomas J. Day. M. E.
