P.O. Chefoo, China, Jan. 23, 1894. Dear Mrs. Harrison, Your kind note reached me while I was in Scottsville. In a few days after you left, I went to Chicago & remained until near the close of the month. After that, I was very busy making farewell visits to relatives, receiving calls & completing various preparations for my long journey. The overland journey was tiresome from its length. I fell in with some pleasant people who helped to wile away the tedium, but I was glad to arrive at San Francisco. I found some [Written perpendicularly across page] I have no photograph of myself.
