In keeping with their duty, the Board have lind nn eye to the wonts nf this
numerous class of our Southern population, many of wlmm nre far rcinovod

hiving upon the rico plantations of (lenrgin, nnd the cotton nnd sugar planta¬
tion* of tlie Southern Sintes, where few nf the families of their inn«tcrs reside,
they would, in n great nnd nlinning degree, be cut off from nil religious in-truc-
lions but f„r tbo bcncrulcnco of i tlicrs. The llnnrd have, therefore, a Mission
in lialtimnrc, under tlio charge of llev. Noah Davis, a colored man; in Wash¬
ington, D. 0., under tlio charge of llev. II. II, Baltic, n Colored man ; in Smith
Carolina, Carrollton Di-triet, under the cl-nrgo of Itev. hewis Parker; in (!eor-
gia, McIntosh county, under the rare of Her. 0. W. M, William., in connection
with other Churches ; nnd in addition to these. Missionaries nre sustained in
other portions of tl.e South nnd Soutli-Wc-t, devoting n largo portion of their
time to tbi. people— nnd nut without tlie happiest results. Much interest is felt
by many of tlie pious planters for the religions instruction i f their servants.

furnish in their reports accurate information relative to this instrumentality, so
highly favored of licarcn in the development uf the Christian principles and
character. Such returns as hare reached us will he found under another bead,

steeple for n bell. Bro. Shuck writes, Feb. 9, 1SG0: "I spent last Sunday with*
llro. Gilbert nt San llafitel, and preached sermons dny and night, dedicatory of
tho new building lie lias erected for both Church and School purposes. Ho has'
indeed dono nobly in his now field, nnd I wits really surprised to find such an
important enterprise »0 nearly accomplished as I find there. It is the only'
regular Protestant liiu.o of worship in the county of Marin. This is n Baptist
enterpriso throughout."
