September 2002
As America prepares for solemn Sept. 11 remem¬
brances, we, as Great Commission intercessors,
will also be remembering the lost of the world by
taking up pocket prayer guides and focusing fer¬
vent intercession.
This month, Sept. 7-16, we will intercede for the
Jews who do not yet know the Messiah. Next month,
starting on Oct. 23, we will pray for the Hindus of the
world. And beginning on Nov. 6, we will again observe
Ramadan, the Muslim month of prayer, by beseeching
the Lord for the one billion Muslims of the world.
Recently when missionaries observed that, "The
Christian world in general seems to be disengaging
from Muslims at a time when we should focus more
decidedly to take the gospel to them, " an intercessor
wrote to say, "I don't know about the Christian world at
large, but I want to say that since
9/11,
my heart has
been deeply burdened for the Muslim world ... I know
God has a deep love and broken heart for the Muslim
people — may He stir His people likewise."
Pray He will stir us as Southern Baptists. Then ask
for avenues of openness among the lost of our world.
Thank you,
Randy Sprinkle, Director
International Prayer Strategy Office
P.S. NEW UPDATED EDITIONS of the prayer guides
may be ordered by calling 1-800-866-3621 or e-mailing
resource.center@imb.org.
1WA OF MYANMAR AND CHINA (wah).
I Praise God for this word from the Wa team: "We have
had a report of 1,600-plus coming to know the Lord and
being baptized. God is an awesome God! Thank you for
holding our work before the Father in prayer. Your inter¬
cessions are evidenced by the mighty deeds God is doing
among this people group."
2MALOZI OF ZAMBIA AND NAMIBIA
(mah-LOH -zee). HIV continues to ravage Africa.
One wound that cuts deeper than most is the high preva¬
lence of AIDS among teachers. Recent reports say, "In
Zambia, teacher deaths doubled to 1,300 in the first 10
months of 1998 from 680 in 1996." The Malozi people of
Zambia are responsive to the gospel, but many are dying
before the harvest can be brought in. Pray that the believers
who are teachers would stand on the Solid Rock and not be
swayed by society. Beseech the Lord of the harvest to send
out laborers into His harvest field.
3 PORTUGAL (southwestern Europe). The
Central Portugal team gives praise to the Father for what
He allowed it to accomplish recently in joint ministry with a
volunteer group of Baptist Student Union (BSU) students from
Tennessee. They distributed JESUS film invitations in the
city of Bombarral and have already received three responses
from this distribution. Give thanks that the Holy Spirit is mov¬
ing in the lives of these people, and intercede as they and
their families view the film. Pray that they will be convicted
of their need for a personal relationship with God's Son.
4ASHENINKA OF PERU (ah-SHIN-uh-kah).
Pray for new open doors in the Perene River region of
the Peruvian jungle among the Asheninka people group.
Pray that the Lord will send laborers for this region and
Asheninka men to train and give wisdom to the IMB team
working among them.
5 TRIPERA OF BANGLADESH (TREE-pur-
ah). In the late 1990s, numerous churches were started
among Triperas. Since the beginning of this century, church
growth has slowed. There has been great persecution of
new converts, and spiritual warfare has also taken its toll
on leaders. Obviously, the Evil One is trying to thwart any
movement among the Triperas. Pray for a spiritual renewal
among Tripera believers and for the protection of new be¬
lievers. Ask God to reveal His glory to Tripera villages so
they will bow before the one true God.
6AMAXHOSA OF SOUTH AFRICA (ah-mah-
KOH-sah). Pray that the amaXhosa will come to see
the importance of abstinence and faithfulness in the fight
against HIV/ AIDS, and that they will apply that under¬
standing to their life. Praise God that young people are open
to hearing God's message of abstinence and faithfulness!
7 FRANCE (western Europe). Team Corsica
covets your intercession, as a project has recently been
set in motion to produce the JESUS film in the Corsican
language. Pray that this will come to fruition. Intercede that
Corsican believers will unite to work together to create this
effective ministry tool. Corsicans are a very proud people.
Many of them will not listen to the gospel presented in
French, but might be open to listen to it in their heart lan¬
guage. Pray that they will have this opportunity!
