October 2002
Rejoice and give thanks to God!
ast spring you prayed, asking God to move us as a
people to unite in prayer on Pentecost Sunday, the
annual observance of the Day of Prayer and Fasting
for World Evangelization (DPFWE). More than 8,000
churches responded, requesting the free prayer kit and
video, available in seven languages. Tens of thousands
of people prayed.
Now, although it is fall and still half a year away
from next spring's world evangelization prayer focus,
we need to pray again. As you read this, a skilled and
deeply committed video producer is laboring to create
the video that will be the heart of next spring's DPFWE
prayer kit. Ask God to anoint and enable him. Ask that
every scene and word be His choice, and pray that the
video will be powerfully used by God to move us to fer¬
vent intercession for the Chinese. There are more lost
people in China than in any other nation on earth — 1.2
billion — and they will only be reached with the gospel
as we pray.
So let's,

TAIWAN (east Asian coast). Recently,
Taiwanese students J and S began second-generation
BodyLife cell groups (home-based congregations) in
T'aichung, where they attend a university. Within the last
year, both of these young women have come into a saving
knowledge of our Lord and have been training to lead out
in grouping members of Christ's body together. With much
fear and trembling, they will begin with two other new
female Christians to teach what Unbound Student Minis¬
tries team member Amanda Taylor has been teaching
them. Ask the Lord to give these four young women wis¬
dom as they continue the cycle of training others who will,
m turn, train still others.
SEYCHELLES, INDIAN OCEAN ISLANDS.
Recently, two young people who have been active in
the Grace and Peace Baptist Church for several years an¬
nounced their intention to marry. These two fine Christians,
who already have leadership positions in the church, have
been a model of purity to the younger youth. Praise God
that they gave their hearts to Him early in their youth, and
for their commitment to sexual purity in a place where prom¬
iscuity is the cultural norm! The significance of such a model
can only be understood when one realizes that most children
in Seychelles (more than 75 percent) are bom out of wedlock,
and many have no relationship with their fathers. Pray that
God will honor this couple's commitment to one another
and that He will bless their gifts of leadership. The young
man has the gift of evangelism, and the young woman has
recently felt called to serve in children's work. Pray that God
will continue to call out leaders among the nationals.
3 SPAIN (southwestern Europe). The Canary
Islands team asks you to petition for the Father's bless¬
ings on a children's program that team member Brandi
Rose has begun in Playa Honda. Intercede for teachers who
are being trained, and ask for patience and love for the chil¬
dren who are from non-Christian homes. Ask not only that
many children will be led into the kingdom, but also that
the parents will leam, through their children, of the Father's
love for them and the sacrifice His Son made on the cross.
MAPUCHE OF CHILE AND ARGENTINA
(mah-POO-che). Some members of the Mapuche
Strategy Group, along with Chilean missionaries, M and S,
have been following up after the medical project in the area
of Ralco. So far, three new Bible studies have been started
in the areas of Callaqui and Pitril. They also discovered a
new area high up in the mountains that has no church at
all. However, now the weather is bad and it is causing a
hindrance to getting to any of these areas. Please pray that
these Bible studies will continue and that the missionaries
will be able to get to these places.
AFGHANISTAN (east of Iran, north of
Pakistan). There is a huge need for laborers to go to
Afghanistan. Please pray for laborers who would be will¬
ing to stay two years or more.
SOUTH KOREA (eastern Asia). Operation
REACH team leader, missionary Debbie Harrison, seeks to
share the gospel with young adults in Yongsan. Recently,
two class members invited her to go see a small mountain-
top Buddhist temple. The drive to the temple and the loca¬
tion was very beautiful, but the chanting that could be
heard as they stepped out of the car was disheartening.
Debbie has been to many temples to prayerwalk, but this
was her first experience to go with Korean friends who
