May 1996
Last year the March Global PrayerGram carried a request
that brought new meaning to the term “discipleship.”
Missionaries working among the Miskito Indians in the
central American nation of Honduras had need of a “cayuco,” a
30-foot long, dug-out canoe made from a mahogany log. Since
the Mosquito Coast area where the Miskitos live is accessible
only via the numerous rivers and creeks, a cayuco was essential
for evangelistic trips into the area. Together we prayed, God
heard and answered, and a number of churches and individuals
responded as He led them to give. Now it’s time for us to join
together again — this time for thanksgiving.
On May 4 and 5, in the Mosquito Coast town of Puerto
Lempira, two cayucos, complete with 30-horsepower outboard
motors, will be dedicated.
Jesus said, “Go therefore and make disciples of all the na¬
tions.” As we thank Him, let’s join our Miskito sisters and broth¬
ers in asking that each cayuco may truly be a “disciple ship.”
Amen!

THAILAND (southeast Asia). Two Yao villages, never
before touched by the gospel, were recently ministered to by
a medical team that distributed tracts. A young woman translated
and also gave a powerful testimony of her faith, which led many
to want to learn more about God. Pray that efforts to reach those in
Nan Province and northern Thailand will be successful and that
Thai Christians will be burdened for the lost and have a spirit for
discipling new converts. Also, missionary A1 Bames wants to lead
Calvary Baptist Church to set aside a Saturday as a day of prayer
for the church and its ministry. Ask God to lead him in this effort
and that members will draw closer to God.
3 INDONESIA (southeast Asia). Missionaries Frank and
Carmen White make friends among their neighbors by
playing ball, walking and teaching conversational English classes.
Pray that they can show love to these friends and that, through these
relationships, people will be led to accept Christ. Also, the Health
Department has decided that foreign doctors may continue to work
in Indonesia if they pass written and oral medical exams in the In¬
donesian language. Pray that the tests, now being devised, will be
fair and that more doctors will be allowed to serve in this country.
PARAGUAY (central South America). Pray that every
believer would disciple another in 1996, that hospital personnel
and patients will trust Jesus as Savior and that discipleship groups
will multiply.
4 SPECIAL PRAYER. A country in Africa has seized the
human needs equipment of representatives and has asked
these personnel to leave. This is related to the arrest of 10 national
believers in December. Pray that the remaining representatives will
be able to stay, and ask God to open the way for the ousted couple
to return. Pray for the protection of the 10 national believers.
SOUTHEAST ASIA. Pray that God will protect missionaries
from any who are hostile towards Christianity and that this hostili¬
ty will be turned into love by the power of Christ.
ZAMBIA (south central Africa). Missionary Mike
Howard reports 55 churches and preaching points are now
open and being discipled. In addition, new places are brought to
his attention for discipling each month. Give thanks to God for His
gift of salvation! Missionary Wade Coker traveled to the bush to
conduct the first worship service of a new Baptist fellowship. In
spite of heavy witchcraft activity in the area, four men were saved
and a new church was bom that day. Pray that this congregation
will shine brightly and that members will be instruments in over¬
coming darkness.
TIANJIN (China). Each week in 1 996, we are praying for
salvation through faith in Jesus Christ to come to an area of
Tianjin — one of the world’s least evangelized cities. Ask God to
send His Word into the Jiachangdao residential area.
2 DOMINICAN REPUBLIC (island southeast of Cuba).
International Baptist Church is holding a six-week disciple¬
ship course for couples in its English-speaking congregation. Ask
the Holy Spirit to burden their hearts with a desire for a closer walk
with God, and that Christ’s power and love might be experienced
in the poverty-stricken community surrounding Jerusalem church.
UNITED KINGDOM (northwest Europe). Forty ladies
attend meetings at Kirkintilloch Baptist Church. Pray that the non-
Christians making up half of the group will clearly understand the
gospel as it is presented at each meeting.
LIBERIA (western Africa). Armed robbers threatened
missionaries Bradley and Carolyn Brown and entered the
mission compound after the Browns left for furlough. The Browns
have now returned to this country. Ask God to grant peace and pro¬
tection to them and other Christians there. Give thanks to the Lord
for capable young men who work with Theological Education by
Extension. Ask the Lord to give a greater vision and effectiveness
for these ministries. Also pray that young Liberian preachers may
lead holy, exemplary lives and minister in the power of His Holy
Spirit.
