May 1995
The 1995 Day of Prayer and Fasting for World Evangeliza¬
tion is from 6:00 p.m., June 2 to 6:00 p.m., June 3. Each year
Southern Baptists and other Great Commission Christians
worldwide hold a day of prayer and fasting for some of the
world’s 3.9 billion lost people. The focus of this year's prayer
emphasis is the Hui of China. During the past several years,
seven Hui out of a population of more than 8.6 million have
been clearly identified as converts to Christianity. While others
may exist, these seven have made themselves known and are
seeking ways to express their new freedom in Christ. Make
plans to have a Day of Prayer and Fasting in your church. A
free packet, available April 1, 1995, will help you promote this
emphasis. The packet includes a prayer guide on Muslims in
Asia with an insert highlighting the Hui, The Commission
magazine coverage on the Hui, a 10-minute video featuring the
Hui, plus other items appropriate for promoting this emphasis.

REQUESTS
ALGERIA. This is a very difficult time in North Africa. Algeria
is in the middle of civil conflict that has claimed 1 8,000 lives (of¬
ficial estimate); unofficial sources estimate the number of dead at
40,000. The future looks bleak, and the sides appear to be polariz¬
ing. Please pray that God will show effective ways to share in this
troubled time.
AUSTRIA. Baptist representatives Charles and Louise Bradshaw
in Vienna request prayer for a Turkish Muslim woman with whom
Louise has become very close through teaching her English. The
woman is “Westernized” but still religiously and culturally bound
to Islam. This close relationship provides witnessing opportunities
even though the woman maintains an element of resistance.
BOLIVIA. Pray for missionaries Doug and Debbie Floyd as they
home school their daughters, Laura and Lesley. Ask God to grant
them, and all of our missionaries who home school, clear teaching
methods and to make good use of teaching time.
BRAZIL. Several young couples in the air force stationed in
Belem are church members and are witnessing to their military
colleagues. Sualo and Samara, as well as Ivaldo and Lenize are
two of these couples, and now they may be transferred to another
city. Pray for them as they move. Pray for the new couples as they
grow in the Lord and become stronger witnesses.
BULGARIA. Pray for the Christians in this country to continue to
proclaim the gospel and give witness to its power. Pray they will
see the Holy Spirit move across the land, drawing this beleaguered
people into a redeeming relationship with God.
BURKINA FASO. Pray for the women’s program at the Rural
Baptist Pastors’ School in Koudougou. They are presently study¬
ing “The Christian Woman.” At least three language groups are
represented, and the husbands currently sit beside their wives to
interpret as the teacher teaches in French. They hope to include
French classes in the future.
CARIBBEAN BAPTIST COMMUNICATIONS CENTER.
Pray for the personnel at the Caribbean Baptist Communications
Center in Hollywood, Fla., as they work to reach others through¬
out the Caribbean The center houses both Caribbean Christian
Publications and the media center.
COSTA RICA. Pray for theological education in Costa Rica,
especially the seminary extension program. Ask the Lord to give
His leadership to the professors who travel to teach those who
cannot attend seminary on a regular basis.
COSTA RICA. Pray for an evangelistic crusade bringing 30
Brazilian preachers to Costa Rica on May 21-28, 1995.
DOMINICAN REPUBLIC. Jerusalem Baptist Church is located
in one of the poorer parts of the city and has been going through
some difficult times. A group of national pastors and missionaries
have been asked to work with this church. Missionary Stuart Myers
will be preaching there two Sundays a month and leading a weekly
prayer time. Please pray that the problems and differences can be
resolved and that God will be glorified.
EL PASO, BAPTIST SPANISH PUBLISHING HOUSE.
Missionaries Laveme and Betty Gregory are the U.S. sales repre¬
sentatives for the publishing house. They travel across the United
States, presenting the publishing house’s products to the distribu¬
tors and bookstores selling to their local areas. Pray for the safety
of the Gregorys as they travel. Pray that their efforts will result in
getting the materials into the hands of the people who need them
in their ministry.
GAZA. Pray that new Baptist representatives to Gaza, Scott and
Shirin Terry, will finish language study in God’s time to be used
by Him to train church leadership.
GUYANA. Missionaries Ken and Chris Mauldin have shown the
Jesus film in two (mostly Hindu and Muslim) villages in Guyana.
About 400 people saw the film. Pray for the eight who were saved
and attending convert’s classes. Pray that many more will be saved.
