June 1995
The 1995 Day of Prayer and Fasting for World Evangeli¬
zation is scheduled from 6:00 p.m., June 2 to 6:00 p.m., June 3.
Each year Southern Baptists and other Great Commission
Christians worldwide hold a day of prayer and fasting for
some of the world’s 3.9 billion lost people. The focus of this
year’s prayer emphasis is the Hui of China. During the past
several years, seven Hui out of a population of more than 8.6
million have been clearly identified as converts to Christianity.
While others may exist, these seven have made themselves
known and are seeking ways to express their new freedom in
Christ. Pray for the safety of new Hui converts to Christianity
and for effective discipleship training. Pray that relationships
will develop between Christian workers and leaders in the Hui
community so that bridges to the gospel can be established.
REQUESTS
ANGOLA. Pray that the shaky peace accord signed Nov. 22,
1994, may hold and that the Angolan people can see an end to
fighting which has raged since 1961 .
ARGENTINA. Please pray for the Baptist World Alliance Con¬
gress to be held in Buenos Aires, Argentina, Aug. 1-6, 1995. Be¬
tween 8,000 and 10,000 Baptists from around the world are ex¬
pected. The theme for the Congress is “Celebrate Christ: The
Hope of the World.” Please pray for wisdom for the speakers and
planners of the evening sessions.
AUSTRIA. Pray for the annual National Convention of Austrian
Baptists, June 9-11, in Salzburg. Pray that the dreams of growth
and expansion of the courageous leaders will be communicated
well so Austrian Baptists might share the vision and participate.
BARBADOS, WINDWARD ISLANDS. The Barbados Women’s
Retreat will be held June 9-10. Pray that God’s outpouring will
flow from this retreat, bringing renewal to all women attending.
BELGIUM. Baptist representatives Clif and Laurie Ingram write:
“Thank the Lord for the response to the Jesus film. At two show¬
ings in the Mariekerke-Bomem area, we had over 40 people in
attendance. Some attended because they are seeking God. We
were able to give out at least 10 New Testaments.”
BOLIVIA. Missionaries Toby and Cindy Hoover request prayer
for the beginning of a literacy center at the Haziel congregation in
Santa Cruz.
BRAZIL. Pray for missionary Joey McNeill as he preaches and
does leadership training at the Congregacao Santa Fe in Teresina.
BURKINA FASO. Pray for three pastors in Ouagadougou who
are seeking property for their churches which are presently meet¬
ing on temporary sites.
CHINA. Pray for your personal involvement in “1 million by
2000” — 1 million believers in the city of Beijing by the year 2000.
Will you faithfully pray for the salvation of the city? Will you
enlist at least three other prayer warriors to pray for the people of
Beijing? Will you come to Beijing on a prayer walk? Will you
come to the capital as a student, teacher, business person, doctor,
athlete or scientist? This emphasis, “1 million by 2000,” is attain¬
able because with God, all things are possible.
COLOMBIA. Pray for the Federman Baptist Church in Bogota to
find a building and neighborhood in which to meet. Pray also for
the new pastor, Guillermo Silva.
COSTA RICA. Pray the Lord will bless and make effective the
ministry of two volunteer teams from Georgia and Arkansas com¬
ing to work in the Cartago province during June and July. These
two teams will offer puppet dramas, Bible and tract distribution,
first aid seminars, arts and crafts, a Vacation Bible School and
youth activities.
COSTA RICA. With the help of a few language school mission¬
aries, Baptist missionaries Larry and Mary Hendricks are presently
surveying some neighborhoods on the south side of Cartago, Costa
Rica. There is no strong evangelical work in this part of the city,
but there is a good bit of new construction going on. The survey
results will partly give the Hendrickses an idea of the feasibility of
a new work, but most of all they want to know the Lord’s will.
Pray they will have His wisdom and that a family could be found
who will open their home to a Bible study.
DOMINICA, WINDWARD ISLANDS. The Deliverance
Church in Dominica has begun a 5:00 a.m. prayer group two days
a week and also plans to begin surveying the village of Trafalgar
for starting new work. Praise the Lord! This is the first time a
church body has initiated anything like this without missionary
involvement and without a pastor!
ECUADOR. Pray for the Wycliffe and New Tribes missionaries
kidnapped in Colombia and Panama during the past two years:
Dave Mankins, Mark Rich, Rick Teneoff, Tim Van Dyke and
Steve Welsh.
ECUADOR. Pray for missionaries Harry and Donna Harper as
they work with new missions and churches in northern Ecuador.
