February 2004
I wait for the Lord, my soul waits, and in his word I put
my hope (Ps. 130:5, NIV).
4 HAITIAN WORKERS IN SANTIAGO,
I DOMINICAN REPUBLIC (HAY-shun).
Please pray for two Haitian groups here in Santiago. One
meets Monday evenings and the other Friday evenings.
Please pray that there would be a genuine commitment by
the Haitians attending these groups. The Monday evening
group started off well but has seen a dramatic drop in peo¬
ple coming. The Friday group is led by a Haitian college
student, L, who has a real heart for reaching his fellow
Haitian brothers and sisters for the Lord.
2RUMELIAN TURKS OF BULGARIA (roo-
MEH-lee-an). Pray for the work among the Turkish
Roma (Gypsies) to increase and bear much fruit. Pray for
one Roma pastor, A, who came from a Muslim background.
Pray that he will have many opportunities to reach out to
ihe Muslim community. Pray that they will accept his wit¬
ness and that he will be faithful in using every opportunity
the Lord gives him to witness.
3 SOMALI OF THE HORN OF AFRICA (suh-
MAH-lee). Somali believers are few and scattered,
but there is a growing interest in hearing and reading about
the Bible. The Somali translation of the Bible was completed
in the 1960s. It needed to be revised and reprinted, and that
process is near completion. Once the text is revised and in
digital form, various reprints can be made. The Somali Bible
needs to be printed into a smaller-sized book due to the
threat of persecution. Pray that the new Bibles will be ob¬
tained and distributed in gateway cities around the Horn.
4 TAIWAN (east Asia). Please pray for Baptist
national co-workers (pastors) who are seeking God's
power in reaching the nearly 23 million lost in Taiwan.
They hunger for an outpouring of God's Spirit to anoint
believers with boldness and a fresh vision of His love. Pray
that God would hear and answer their prayers as they seek
His face. Pray that He will begin a mighty work in the lives
of (400,000) Christians around the island, and that He will
draw the millions who are lost and in darkness into His
presence and His light. Pray that the truth and power of
Jesus' name will become known and spread from city to
city throughout the island and on to the world. For the sake
of the lost, for the glory of Jesus, pray for God to move His
Spirit throughout Taiwan, penetrating hearts with His
truth and life.
5 IRANIAN ARABS OF CENTRAL ASIA (i-
RAY-nee-uhn). Iranian Arabs live primarily in the
Persian Gulf provinces of Iran and near the Iran, Iraq and
Kuwait borders. Iranian Arabs living in Iraq are called
Marsh Arabs. Currently, there are no known Iranian Arab
believers and no believers living among them. Please pray
for the evangelization of Iranian Arabs.
6 RURAL DOMINICANS OF THE DOMINI¬
CAN REPUBLIC. The members of the church in
Monte Cristi have been actively involved in evangelizing
an area called Las Flores. Recently one lady, M, accepted
Christ and is now being discipled by Q, a member of the
current church in Monte Cristi. Q is very excited to have
another spiritual child and is actively trying to help her to
grow in the Word. Please pray for M, that she will continue
to grow in her newfound faith in Jesus. Pray also for the
many others as they continue to hear God's Word, that they
will realize their need for a personal relationship with the
Savior and that a strong church will emerge from this work.
7 BUDAPEST, HUNGARY (BOOD-uh-pest).
"Almost 2.2 million people live in Budapest and the
surrounding suburbs," writes Team Budapest. "Over the
last few years, God has shown us that reaching this many
people with the gospel is a God-sized task, and one that will
not take place without a solid foundation of prayer. Under
His leadership, in May of 2004 we will be hosting a week of
prayer for Budapest called Bridge the Gap. During this
week, several volunteer teams will join us in prayerwalking
many key areas throughout the city. In addition, people
worldwide will join us in praying daily for the people of
Budapest. Please pray that God will guide us as we plan
and prepare for this event. Pray that God will raise up 750
people worldwide to participate with us. Pray that He will
call out several to travel to Budapest to prayerwalk with us."
Yet the Lord longs to be gracious to you; he rises to show
you compassion. For the Lord is a God of justice. Blessed
are all who wait for Him (Isa. 30:18, NIV).
8 CHADIAN ARABS OF CHAD (CHAD-ee-
an). As part of the persecution that believers in Chad
are experiencing, workers on the field have been restricted
from going into certain areas of the country. One worker
writes: "Pray, also, since we are not at present allowed into
certain parts of the country, that we would seek God's face
on how that may affect our plans — just as Paul was redirect¬
ed at times; not a bad thing, just a challenge."
