Extract of a letter from Brother Cheeseman, January 22, 1855

EDINA Brother Cheeseman is much encouraged, and writes January 22: I shall, the Lord being my helper, endeavor to do all 1 can for my degraded race here, and feel fully confident, that notwithstanding the difficulties which will present themselves from time to time, Africa will be redeemed. Christ has a people here and he will bring them into his fold. The instruments employed are apparently weak, and inadequate to the task; but we rejoice that it is characteristic of our Christianity that great ends have been accomplished by feeble instrumentalities. “The treasure of the gospel has been committed to earthen vessels that the excellency of the power might be of God.” Oh! may the Holy Spirit guide and direct us in our work.
